Verification Standards

How we confirm, label, and correct

This page explains our publishing rules in plain language. The goal is simple: readers should know what is confirmed, what is still developing, and what changed after publication. These standards also help keep the site suitable for brand-safe advertising.

Documents and a coffee on a desk, representing careful review

We prioritize primary sources and document timestamps to keep updates transparent.

Labels you’ll see

  • Confirmed: supported by credible sources and consistent details.
  • Developing: key details are still being verified; updates are time-stamped.
  • Corrected: a published item changed; we explain what was updated.

Tip: If a claim does not meet the threshold, it is not published as a verified update.

Our verification checklist

Before publishing, we verify the origin of information, the date and location context, and whether the claim is first-hand or repeated. For higher-impact topics, we look for independent confirmation or supporting documents. When sources disagree, we do not “average” the truth; we state what is confirmed and what remains unclear.

Source quality

We favor primary sources such as official releases, transcripts, direct statements, and reputable public datasets. We avoid anonymous screenshots and unverified reposts.

Time and context

We confirm when information was published or recorded and whether it applies nationally, provincially, or locally. We also note when older content resurfaces.

Attribution clarity

If an update is based on a statement, we name the type of source and avoid presenting it as a confirmed outcome unless it is corroborated.

Update discipline

We append updates with timestamps rather than rewriting history. When a correction is needed, we explain what changed and why.

Corrections policy

If an error is confirmed, we correct promptly and keep the correction visible. Corrections include the corrected information, the original error in brief, and the time the correction was made. For minor edits that do not affect meaning (spelling or formatting), we may update without a correction label.

Privacy and safety

We do not publish private personal information. For sensitive situations, we avoid details that could identify individuals unless they are public officials acting in an official capacity or the information is already part of a verified public record. We aim to be respectful and avoid inflammatory framing.
